Pediatric Lymphedema

Indications:

  • Primary lymphedema
  • Secondary lymphedema
  • Venous insufficiency
  • Venous stasis ulcers
  • Dysfunction of the muscle pump

Contraindications:

Use of pneumatic compression therapy systems is not recommended in the presence of any of the following conditions:

  • Known or suspected deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism
  • During the inflammatory phlebitis process
  • Acute infection of the affected limb, start antibiotics
  • Decompensated cardiac failure/ congestive heart failure
  • Severe arteriosclerosis or other ischemic vascular disease
  • Any circumstance where increased venous and lymphatic return is undesirable

Pneumatic compression therapy has been used on many pediatric patients who suffer from primary or secondary lymphedema. Lifelong management of lymphedema is critical to controlling the lymphatic swelling that will occur over time.

Pediatric Lymphedema

Use pneumatic compression therapy for:

  • Lymphedema primary or secondary
  • Bilateral leg lymphedema
  • Bilateral arm lymphedema

Covered by Insurance

When properly prescribed by a physician or qualified healthcare provider, Medicare, workers' compensation, and many private insurance plans will cover the pneumatic compression pump.
